IN BRIEF: Wolverhampton's new square opened last week

Wolverhampton's first new square since Georgian times was opened by deputy prime minister John Prescott last week. Market Square is the centrepiece of the St John's Urban Village regeneration zone, south of the city centre. The £11.5 million mixed-use development, funded by a public-private partnership, also comprises a shopping arcade and 64 apartments. Wolverhampton City Council leader Roger Lawrence said: "The development is changing the image of the area and will form a living heart in St John's Urban Village."
