Seven more days until Planning Awards entry deadline

Potential entrants have sevent more days to prepare their submissions for this year's Planning Awards.

The entry deadline for the awards, which recognise excellence in planning practice, is 14 April.

New categories in this year’s competition include awards for plan-making, planning for energy infrastructure, planning for transport infrastructure and planning for affordable housing. They join 13 other existing categories, covering various areas of planning work. There are also awards for the most outstanding entries from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as the English regions.

In all of the categories, the judges are seeking evidence that entries have improved or are likely to improve the physical or environmental quality of a place or the economic or social well-being of a community.

Entrants are required to write a straightforward 600-word submission explaining how their work addresses the criteria. Previous entrants report that they have found the process quick and easy to complete. The case for your entry should be made concisely and, while it may be supplemented by further attachments, these can comprise existing plans, drawings, photographs or videos, evaluations, inspection reports, press cutting or testimonials.

Past winners have told Planning that the recognition of an award has boosted team morale, promoted their work and enhanced perceptions of their team among other departments, partner organisations or potential clients.

The Planning Awards will be presented this summer at a evening ceremony in London at which the Placemaking Awards will also be presented. While the Planning Awards reward excellence in planning practice, the Placemaking Awards celebrate outstanding work in regeneration, economic development, urban design, sustainable development and community development as well as planning. The shortlist for this year’s Placemaking Awards has already been published.

The Planning Awards are sponsored by Border Archaeology.
