A lawyer who has been advising housebuilder CALA Homes in their fight against the coalition's decision to revoke regional housing targets is to leave Macfarlanes to join a rival law firm.

Ian Ginbey, a partner and head of planning at Macfarlanes, will join Clyde & Co’s real estate team as a partner and head of planning.

Ginbey has advised housebuilder CALA Homes in their high-profile legal battle against the Government’s decision to scrap regional spatial strategies.

Last week, CALA Homes was granted permission to appeal against a recent High Court defeat that ruled that decision-makers should consider the Government's intention to abolish the regional plans that set housing targets when deciding on planning applications.

Clyde & Co real estate partner Martin Quicke said: "We are actively strengthening the breadth and depth of services that we provide in real estate.

"Ian brings with him extensive experience in high-value, complex planning cases and he will be an invaluable asset to our growing team."
