The demolition of two houses in a conservation area in Northumberland has been approved after an inspector ruled that they do not make a valuable contribution to the area.
The houses formed part of a larger area where permission had been granted for redevelopment. The council was concerned that their removal might adversely affect the setting of a grade II listed clock tower memorial. The inspector found that the buildings were of neither architectural nor historic merit and agreed that their demolition was required to implement an approved scheme that would enhance the conservation area.
