Planning, 22 August 2008
A site in the Surrey Hills area of outstanding natural beauty and metropolitan green belt has been judged unsuitable for three homes because they would undermine the area's spacious character.
The site lay within a settlement boundary in an area characterised by low-density development and houses set in large plots, creating a semi-rural setting. The inspector considered that the proposed homes would have insufficient space between them, contrasting sharply with adjoining plots. He also expressed concern about the design, which in his view emphasised a more built-up suburban character. The scheme would fail to preserve the character of the area through harmonious and good-quality design, he opined.
