A wind turbine proposed for the garden of commercial premises in a Liverpool conservation area has been refused planning permission on the grounds of harm to local residents' amenity.
The 12m-high mast would carry turbine blades of 5m in diameter. While agreeing that it would appear as a substantial and utilitarian structure, the inspector decided that it would not adversely affect the setting of listed buildings. But he was concerned about the noise generated by the turning blades and the impact on local residents.
The installation would be sited near the rear garden and windows of one home and would be visible from several others, he said. He was satisfied that its position would adversely affect local residents' outlook. This was sufficient to dismiss the appeal despite its environmental and economic benefits, he ruled.
